Today’s Google-doodle for marking the event is definitely pretty and therefore worth saving.

Now I learnt via Wikipedia that the atmosphere I felt in that station was spot-on. The station had been built 1928, and the strange colour of the walls is from back then. Almost 90 years of the same tiles. Back then, the station’s name was “Neanderstraße”. During the Second World War the entire underground net was closed, Neanderstraße reopened only in 1945.

In 1960 the station got renamed to Heinrich-Heine-Straße. But it was only used for almost a year after that. Like a few other stations, it became a “ghost station” when the wall got built. Trains only passed through but they didn’t stop – until 30 years later, when the station reopened 1st of July 1990 together with all other “ghost stations” in Berlin. The year when Germany started to grow together again.

Still, since then, almost 25 years later, nothing really changed down there. At U-Bahnhof Heinrich-Heine-Straße the breath of history truly embraces you, and it is a rather strange sensation.

9 plants moved to a good home and made friends and family happy, 8 of them stayed on our balcony. Our plants had a hard time, they almost died of drought in June while we were away for week… Amazing that we still got a really decent amount of fruit!

I admittedly was a bit skeptic about the quality when I found this laptop sleeve on Coolstuff.se. But since I had already been looking for quite some time for a nice cover that doesn’t look boring, and since I didn’t find any that I liked, I gave it a try. The price seemed very much OK as well. And I didn’t get disappointed! This laptop sleeve really looks like an old envelope! And it is really sturdy, with a nice red, strong padding inside as well. It might take a bit more space in your rucksack, but to me, that’s worth it. You can even customise the sleeve further by writing on it, putting on stickers etc..

Now, for an English-speaking person this is not that funny – but trust me, it is for a German, and especially for a German that knows Swedish…

Cos for us, this is clearly a company that transports dead people (“Toten” = German for the dead ones) and carcasses (what “AS” means in Swedish). And that even as far as to Portugal, when you check out their website. Impressive.

And it’s a Norwegian company, in case you wondered.

This is what blogging would have earned me until now:

Not really anything, but this isn’t why I blog. I just think it is fun to keep an online-diary, and that it is an easy way to share thoughts as well as cool stuff that one encounters, either online or in real life.

Also, when you look at the range of web content, I think that it is important to find as many views on a subject as possible. No matter whether a journalist has written his take on things, or bloggers theirs. Only with lots of different opinions, uncensored by anyone, we will be able to get the full picture of a story. By the way, an insight about how journalists function, you can read here. Might be useful to know next time you want to pitch a story.

Anyway, even if blogging hasn’t earned me even as much as a cup of coffee yet, I will continue. You are very welcome to take a cup of coffee with me some time!And no worries, I can pay for myself or maybe even invite you

Following this video, I found another more serious one with Mary. Food Runners! A great initiative in San Francisco. To my mind such a service should be standard in every big (or even smaller) city in our Western world where we throw food away all too easily and without thinking.
